When Outlook won’t Open

Outlook will not open — reasons may vary from file corruption and poorly configured add-ins to Outlook profile issues. People sometimes run into issues, so here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Start Outlook in Safe Mode

Safe Mode — This will launch either Outlook without any add-ins and extensions if it is causing the issue.

Steps to disable the AutoStart for Auto Hotkey: Press Windows + R on your keyboard then, Type Shell; Startup and press Enter.

– Type `outlook. exe /safe` and press Enter.

When you open Outlook to Safe Mode your problem could be coming from an add-in or extension.

2. Check for Updates

Update Your Outlook and Office Suite to the Latest

– Go to any Microsoft Office file (e.g. Word, Excel).

– Click on File Tab & Select Account (or Office Account)

– Update Now > Save Changes

3. Repair Office Installation

If Outlook is not opening, then there can be an issue with the installation, repairing office can resolve this.

Open Control Panel (or Settings on Windows 10/11).

– Click on Programs and Features

Step 1: Open your Control Panel -> Programs and features Find Microsoft Office in the list, right click it & select Change.

Click on Quick Repair (this should work, but if not go back to the installer and choose Online Repair)

4. Look for any conflicting applications

Sometimes Outlook can conflict with other applications or security software.

_ Close your security program and open Outlook to check if it will work.

Close other processes you know of and try opening Outlook again.

5. Create a New Outlook Profile

— Use the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst. exe). It is in the Office installation directory. The typical path is:

– Open scanpst. exe on your PST file and proceed through the scan and repair steps of that copyright.

7. Check Event Viewer for Errors

If a mistake is stopping Outlook from opening, the Event Viewer might offer some hints.

Press `Windows + X` and select Event Viewer.

1- Click on Windows Logs > Application and check for Outlook related errors.

8. Start Outlook as a Different User

This issue can arise if the user profile becomes corrupt sometimes. Run Outlook under a different Windows user account.

If the issue persists even after following all these steps use Microsoft Support.
